Week 4 – Prayer
Spiritual Warfare 2
“HAVING DONE ALL – STAND”!
The book of Ephesians – 5 Chapters speaks on who we are and how we are to be in this world and there is 1 chapter on Spiritual Warfare (SW). SW is not something we need to fear – it’s not a mystical realm. SW should be a way of life. – walking in the Supernatural, naturally.
Priscilla Shirer speaks on SW and the Armor – We need to realise there is always something you can’t see controlling the things that you can see.
You have an enemy and he is very real and he is banking on the idea that that you will forget he is there.
Many Christians have adopted a humanistic view of things. They think most everything they encounter on a daily basis is either physical or natural.
The truth is, there is a battle raging – that battle is for your heart and the hearts of every other person on earth.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NKJV)
Eph 6:12 – Is referring to demonic powers. There’s a chain of command, an authority structure in the demonic realm, and this lists these different levels. But notice that it says you are not wrestling against flesh and blood.
In the Greek, where the Bible says a person was demon possessed, the word literally means “demonized.” It just means they were under the control of the devil.
The fact is that even Christian people can be influenced, controlled and used by the devil.
On 3 occasions in Ephesians 6 Paul instructs us to stand
How are we to stand:
- In Faith – Romans 5:2-4 / 1 Cor 6:13
- In divine election – Romans 9:11
- In Gods ability – 1 Pet 5:12
- In the presence of His glory – Jude 1:25
- In the Gospel – Phil 1:27
- In Liberty – Gal 5:1
- In one Spirit – Phil 1:27
- In the Lord – 1 Thes 3:8; Phil 4:1
- In the Word of God – 2 Thes 2:15
- In the day of Wrath – Rev 6:17
- Against the wiles of the devil – Eph 6:11
We are to Stand.
The Belt of Truth
One of the pieces of spiritual armour centres on this issue of Truth. – The Belt of TRUTH.
1st Century believers knew exactly how a Roman Soldier was dressed – The belt was the piece of armour the soldier put on first – a sort of girdle worn close around the body with the other pieces of armour tucked into it.
We need to pray to keep the truth about our REAL IDENTITY in constant, unbroken focus before us.
John 8:31-32 The Truth Will Set You Free
John 4:23-24 True worshippers worship in Spirit and in Truth.
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Breastplate was very heavy. The belt of truth carried the weight of the breastplate –the truth will take that weight of righteousness off your shoulders. The Truth is that 2000 years ago Jesus came and took our sin – he withdrew that sin and deposited the righteousness of God in you. You have a breastplate of righteousness from God – not your own.
2 Cor 5:2121 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our hearts “with all vigilance.”
The Shoes of Peace
Shoes are used for action, not passivity. We wear “Shoes of Peace” we are the ambassadors of God, sharing the love of Jesus with others.
Isaiah 52:77 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation,
Romans 10:5 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!”
The Shield of Faith
A shield was a Roman soldier’s main defence, intended to protect him from volleys of arrows. Likewise, our spiritual shield helps us to “extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16).
Satan’s big weapon is deception — he’s always firing lies at us with the goal of making us forget how God is active in our lives.
We resist these attacks through faith, “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
The Helmet of Salvation
Isaiah 59 :- get a picture of God as a mighty warrior – He put on righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head. That Armour was good enough for God it is certainly good for me.
The place where Jesus won the Victory over Satan was at Golgotha – Means the place of the skull.
In the same way we get our victory when we renew our minds and know who are through Christ – keeping that truth always. The word says –
Isaiah 26:3 He who’s mind is set on things above – he keeps in perfect peace.
Col 3:2 – Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
The Sword of the Spirit
A soldier’s sword could deliver stinging blows to the enemy or defend against an attack. Our spiritual sword is God’s Word. Jesus himself used God’s Word when He fought off Satan’s temptations in the wilderness. Jesus is always our example to live by. Matt 4:1-11
- Early rising – Psalm 57:8-9 (NKJV) Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn.9 I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations.
- Put away distractions – Heb 12:1 – Have a pen and paper available – what you write down your mind knows you’ve acknowledged it and won’t forget it.
- Pray Gods word – Heb 4:12
- Pray in the Spirit and with understanding
- Be thankful – Philippians 4:6 – 10 lepers –
- Praise God – He will work it out for you – Rom 8:28
STANDARD-BEARERS – Represented Christ
- Represented their unity, pride and oath of Loyalty
- Served as a rallying point in battle
- Head Piece – distinguished them as different from Soldiers
- They had very dangerous jobs in battle
- They were the bravest and most vigorous amongst the soldiers
- They were literate and good with numbers – act as bankers (our financers)– pensions (our health)
- Paid twice as much
- Isaiah 59:19
PROMISES FROM GODS WORD
Jeremiah 33:3-6 (NKJV) –3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Jeremiah 29:13-16 (NIV) – 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord,
God’s word is full of promises that we can stand on.
