Understanding the incredible truth of God’s grace is the secret to ending the spiritual exhaustion so many of us feel.
Do you ever feel like you’re running a race you can never win? You try your best to be a good person, to follow all the rules, and to make God happy, but somehow you always feel like you’re falling short. It can be exhausting. It’s like spiritual load shedding – one minute you feel connected, the next, the power is off and you’re left in the dark.
But what if we told you that God isn’t waiting for you to be perfect? What if His love for you isn’t a prize you have to win?
This is the amazing truth of God’s grace. It’s not about what you must do for God, but about understanding everything He has already done for you.
The Old Way: Like a Strict School Teacher
Think back to school. Remember that one teacher who had a massive list of rules? No talking, sit up straight, and homework must be perfect. If you broke even one tiny rule, you were in big trouble.
In the Bible, the Old Covenant, also known as the Law, was a bit like that strict teacher. It gave a long list of rules to follow. Now, these rules were good and perfect, but here’s the problem: nobody could follow them perfectly. The Law was like a mirror – its main job was to show us the dirt on our faces. It showed us that we needed help, that we could never be good enough on our own. It showed us we needed a Saviour.
The New Way: A Free Gift, Not a Reward
This is where the good news gets really good! When Jesus came, He brought a New Covenant of grace.
Imagine it’s your birthday. A friend gives you an amazing gift. Do you say, “Hold on, how much do I owe you?” or “Okay, what chores do I have to do to earn this?” No way! That would be an insult. You just say, “Wow, thank you!” and accept it with a happy heart.
God’s grace is exactly like that. It’s a free gift. Because of what Jesus did on the cross, you have been given forgiveness, love, and a perfect relationship with God. It’s not something you earn by being good. It’s something you receive by believing.
The Bible says the old way was a “ministry of death” because trying and failing to follow all the rules just led to guilt and condemnation. But the new way, this grace-filled way, is a “ministry of life”! It’s about freedom, joy, and resting in God’s amazing love.
Moving from “Doing” to “Done”
So many of us are stuck in a “what can I do for God?” way of thinking. We’re constantly trying to impress Him. But God is inviting us to a new way of thinking: “Look at what He has done for me.”
It’s a massive shift. It means your worst days don’t scare God away, and your best days don’t make Him love you more. He loves you completely, right now, just as you are. His first day with Adam and Eve wasn’t a day of work; it was a day of rest—the Sabbath. He wants your journey with Him to start from a place of rest, not a place of striving.
So, take a deep breath. Let go of the pressure. You are living in a space of grace. God is not mad at you; He is smiling at you. Rest in His finished work.
Ja, it’s that good.
