Have you ever tried to break a bad habit or start a good one, only to find yourself failing a few weeks later? We often rely on sheer human willpower to change our lives. But if you are trying to navigate life, career, and faith using only human effort, you are going to burn out.
Jesus didn’t just come to forgive our sins; He came to show us how to truly live. He modelled Heaven’s original operating system. If we claim to follow Him, we need to learn how to walk as Jesus walked.
1. Religion vs. Relationship
All religion is about humans jumping through hoops trying to reach a distant God. Authentic Christianity is the exact opposite. It is the story of the Creator writing Himself into our story.
Jesus gave up His divine privileges, put on humanity, and was baptised in the Holy Spirit. He didn’t perform miracles simply because He was God; He performed them as a Spirit-filled human fully surrendered to the Father. He set the blueprint for us.
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” — John 1:12-13
2. Abundance vs. The Wilderness
To understand how to walk as Jesus walked, we have to look at the two “Adams.”
The First Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden—a perfect environment of absolute abundance. Yet, he gave in to temptation and failed. Jesus, the Last Adam, stepped into a completely different environment.
“And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days.” — Luke 4:1-2
Where the First Adam failed in perfection, Christ succeeded in the barren wilderness. He proved that your external environment does not dictate your internal victory.
3. Flipping Your Internal Operating System
To change how you live, you have to understand how you are built. You are a spirit; you have a soul (intellect, will, and emotions), and you live in a body.
-
The Original Design: The Spirit connects to Heaven, directs the Soul, and the Soul commands the Body.
-
The Fallen Design: When humanity sinned, the system flipped. We started living from the outside in. The Body’s impulses drive the Soul, shutting out the Spirit.
-
The Restored Design: Jesus walked with the Spirit completely in charge.
If you live from the body, you are driven by self-preservation, fear, and sensuality. You are forced to rely on willpower to manage your impulses—and willpower always eventually runs out.
“For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” — Romans 8:6
4. Dethrone the Flesh and Do the Works
The ultimate goal of a believer is not just to survive until Heaven, but to bring Heaven to earth right now.
“Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” — 1 John 2:6
When you dethrone the flesh and enthrone the Spirit, everything changes. You don’t have to manufacture love, joy, or peace; they are the natural fruit of a Spirit-led life. Furthermore, you step into the exact same operational power that Jesus had.
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.” — John 14:10
Stop trying to improve your flesh, and start surrendering to the Spirit. When you align your will, intellect, and emotions with the Word of God, you will finally step into your true potential and walk as Jesus walked.
